Charles Darwin, Father of Evolutionary Theory, Had Stinky Feet

Over 5,000 letters written by Charles Darwin to family members, scientists, diplomats and clergymen will be put online tomorrow by the Darwin Correspondence Project. The missives touch on everything from evolution (duh!) to gardening to personal grooming:

In some of his earliest letters, he recounts talking to his sister Caroline, who had asked him about his personal hygiene.

"I only wash my fe[e]t once a month at school, which I confess is nasty, but I cannot help it, for we have nothing to do it with," he wrote.
