Craig Newmark, creator of San Francisco based Craigslist, has of late been denying that he is the harbinger of death for the print world. “What? Lil’ ol’ me? Killing print? Pshaw…!” But it’s clear that the barebones site has put a significant dent in the fortunes of daily newspapers.

Yesterday, on his personal site, Craig was uncharacteristically blunt in his assessment of print: “I really do think people who run printing presses, in the literal sense, will need a hand as the use of paper is minimized. Many will lose those jobs, and I'm concerned…” Nice sentiment from an equally nice guy, but too little too late. Craigslist has already done its damage, so no need to express concern now, so long after the fact.
