With the Yahoo Auctions closing date coming up quickly, it's pretty clear that eBay had no problems defending its turf. Well that, or Yahoo was lousy at going on the attack. Anyway, to spice things up on the shrinking online auction playing field eBay recently announced that it will be increasing its affiliate payouts effective June 1st.

Although eBay upped its payouts last July, things have been a little quiet over in San Jose as to the reason for the new increase. It wasn't until we snagged a minute with eBay's Director of Internet Marketing Lily Shen that we got some insight into this new move. According to Shen the main reasons for June’s payout increase are to:

1. Reward existing partners (small, medium and large) for increasing their eBay promotions. We're offering higher rates across all tiers, and offering new top tiers for our largest publishers.

2. Encourage innovation, and the launch of new business models – particularly since many partners find that eBay is a great way to monetize sites, applications, etc.

3. Offer even more compelling rates to attract new partners.

"New partners" probably sounds a lot better than 'Yahoo Auctions Refugees.'
