John Woo, Warren Spector Team Up for <cite>Ninja Gold</cite> Project

According to a Reuters report, John Woo has signed on to direct Ninja Gold, a movie based on the video game by Warren Spector. What's that you say? You've never heard of Ninja Gold? Neither have we. Spector will be the executive producer of the movie; Woo was instrumental in creating some of the characters.

The movie involves a ninja (duh) forced to deal with covert warfare in the modern world. Says Warren:

The idea actually started with John Woo. He wanted to do something involving traditional ninjas in a modern-day setting, and the idea just resonated with me. I was intrigued with the idea of what happens when the traditional and the contemporary come into conflict.

We're all quite familiar with the movie that gets turned into a video game in the hopes of cashing in, with a more often than not tragic outcome. Sometimes, as is the case with just about everything Uwe Boll puts on his resume, the cash-in attempt works in the opposite direction, with the movie trying to ride the popularity coattails of the game. According to Spector, the creation of Ninja Gold wasn't an example of either situation:

I know that my thought from the start was to develop something that would work just as well in games as in movies, and I know John was thinking along the same lines. This was an attempt to create a concept that would work in, and be developed for, a variety of media simultaneously. That's something new for games -- and for movies.

Ok, hands up, everyone who's at least moderately intrigued.
