Scott Beale runs a San Francisco web hosting company, shoots photographs locally (we've published his work on Wired News), and runs The Squid List, a calendar of Bay Area events with a techie/arty bias. But when he tried to set up an Amazon Associates store today, Beale took flak from locals miffed about his support of the Seattle-based monolith and bitter about the recent closings of many excellent San Francisco-area bookstores.

One commenter wrote:

Just more money going to Amazon and not staying locally…glad you are getting 10%, Squid. The rest goes to corporate oblivion. Support LOCAL
business. Amazon is NOT local.

RIP..Cody’s SF, Clean Well Lit, Acorn, the other used Polk St bookstore going out of biz.

The debate continues on Beale's blog, with SF author/blogger/sex columnist Violet Blue and SF publisher/author/provocateur V. Vale weighing in on opposite sides of the issue. What everyone agrees on:
The Squid List rocks.
