Whammy 1: Napster will be delivered directly to Motorola's phones, and the two companies will pow-wow on conquering North America, England and Germany with thusly-equipped handsets.

Whammy 2: Moto just unveiled, at a N.Y. do, some babies to be clad in this DRM diaper, including the RAZR 2, the Ming and the new Moto Q revisions. The RAZR 2 is a step along the evolutionary people-walker, offering additional thinness and style, a larger display and HSDPA networking. Its 500MHz ARM 11 processor is unexpectedly meaty, and will make for more intensive applications.

Also seen was the Moto Z8 (flashed around by Moto supremo Ed Zander), designed to be a fully-featured mobile media player in addition to a voicebox. The Z8 has a 2 megapixel camera, HSDPA, "high-res" screen, MicroSD card slot and a play-nice deal with Universal Pictures for movie provision, with Sony and Warner to come. It'll hook up to your DVR, according to Gizmodo, which was on-hand to ask difficult questions, as well as Flickr, MySpace and YouTube.

O.K., so none of these are really whammies. But still, it's the phone business, and this is as whammy as it gets when there isn't a minuscule "i" at the beginning of the product name.
