New Order Breaks Up on MySpace

Peter Hook ended the group New Order with a post on the group's MySpace page, according to Pitchfork -- a development one might expect from some young upstarts, but not necessarily from a band... with such an extended back catalog, shall we say.

Here's what Pitchfork says bassist Peter Hook's post said:

"'me and Bernard [Sumner] aren't working together'... New Order ha[s] split up... 'i suppose it was the interview with clint boon [on Xfm] that started itall off'...

"'hed asked me for a few words on perry farrells satellite party singledogstar...so i went on and lo and behold mentioned the N.O. splitso i suppose because it was me sayin it it was out at last. im relievedreally hated carryin on as normal with an awful secret so lets move onshall we?'...

"'some kid came up and gave me a hug and said 'sorry to hear about neworder hooky' i was really touched its like your budgie dyin!'"

Add that to the list of strange ways to break up a band:

- Frank Blackdisbanding The Pixies via answering machine message
- The Fall's bestguitarist sacked for "failure to maintain amplifier" (in addition to the entire band being sacked at least ten times over due to various trifles and tragedies)
- TheBeatles' mysterious, manifold disintegration
