Next-Gen NASA Spacecrafts on Track

NASA completed a six month comprehensive review of their Constellation Program. The
Constellation Program encompasses the Ares launch vehicles, the Orion spacecraft, a lunar lander, and other support systems.

A "baseline synchronization" on May 23 followed individual systems requirements reviews, or SRRs, by the Constellation Program and the
Orion, Ares, Ground Operations, Mission Operations and Extravehicular
Activity (spacewalk) projects. The synchronization effort was designed to identify any conflicts or gaps between and among the projects and the program and to establish a plan for resolving those issues.

The Ares I launch vehicle is being designed to send the Orion spacecraft -- which will be powered by solar cells -- into lower earth orbit and the International Space Station by the beginning of 2015, with a mission to the moon planned in 2019.
