Not to be outdone in the pointless overkill department, Panasonic has its own 12-megapixel point-and-shoot on the way.
The Lumix DMC-FX100 also boasts a 28mm-equivalent wide-angle lens with
3.6x zoom, which Panasonic states "is particularly helpful in situations where you cannot step back or move away from a subject."
There you have it -- wide-angle photography demystified.
Panasoinc also boasts about some fancy-dancy new version of digital zoom, plus several levels of image stabilization, shutter lag of less than a tenth of a second and about two dozen scene modes, including "food" and two "baby" settings. The image sensor is a relatively generous
1/1.72 inches, so noise may not be as hideous we'd fear at this resolution.
Look for it in July, price TBA.
