The rumors were right. HP finally announced their new monster-sized gaming and multimedia laptop, dubbed the Dragon. We pretty much guessed right on the specs: 20.1 inch monitor, full media centre remote in keyboard cradle and four speakers plus a subwoofer (Altec Lansing) and a back breaking 12 pounds in weight.
What we didn't guess at was the internal configuration. A Core 2 Duo provides the horsepower and a NVIDIA GeForce 8400M takes care of the graphics. There's an option for an HD DVD drive too, although that ain't gonna come cheap. A TV tuner, dual 200GB hard drives, HDMI out and $GB of RAM complete the picture.
The hinge is worth a mention, too. The double-jointed design lets you swing the screen right over the keyboard, possibly useful for in-flight movies.
We have to wonder if somebody in the HP public relations department has been smoking something, though. The press release contains this description of the case design:
Chasing the Dragon indeed. Available this summer from $3000.
