The loveable tow-headed journalist from Belgium gets the 3-D treatment by two of Hollywood's top directors. According to Variety, Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson will each direct a 3-D computer animated film based on Georges "Herge" Remi's comic-strip hero Tintin. The flicks will be part of a trilogy (it's unknown who will direct the third film).

Both Spielberg and Jackson wanted Tintin to have the reality of a live-action film, but felt that doing the movies with live-action actors wouldn't have captured the unique look of the characters and world the comics created. Instead the movies will be made in full digital 3-D using WETA Digital’s groundbreaking performance capture technology. Jackson says, "We're making them look photorealistic; the fibers of their clothing, the pores of their skin and each individual hair. They look exactly like real people — but real Herge people!"

I'm incredibly curious as to how this will look visually. So much of Tintin's appeal is its style of artwork that creating photorealistic characters doesn't quite seem like the right way to go. I could be wrong though.

Also, I'm keeping my fingers crossed that they can get either Tim Burton or Guillermo del Toro (Pan's Labyrinth) to direct the third installment.
