The videoblogger behind pouringdown, featured in Wiredlast year, has created what might just be the kickingest email reader yet. Daniel Liss' creation, built it from a 19th century magic lantern, projects emails one letter at a time using a scrolling alphabet. (Watch it in action here.) The reader, dubbed "email lantern (My Ghost Writer)," will be on display as part of the New York University Interactive Telecommunication Program's 2007 spring show wrapping tonight on the NYU campus. To participate in the show remotely, send an email to [email protected] and it'll be projected on the wall. Even cooler, it'll automatically respond with a message sent to it from another participant. Liss, in his first year in the ITP graduate program, says he found the latern at a yard sale for 18 bucks (maybe it retained its original MSRP?). At the show's opening last night the email lantern got a good, if mixed response:
By the way, extra cool points will be awarded to anyone who sends a message to the gizmo with a steampunk keyboard.
