The problem that many folks have with card-based games is that they're too cutesy; it's hard to look particularly manly shuffling a Pokemon or Yu-Gi-Oh deck, for example. To the rescue comes the Marvel Trading Card Game, which uses the superheroes from the Marvel universe instead of super-cute pocket monsters.
The game allows players to collect 800 virtual cards, and there will more than likely be expansion packs to come. You can even compete in cross-platform online play, so it doesn't matter if you have a PSP and your buddy has a PC, you can still find out if Dr. Doom kicks The Punisher's butt. If you don't have any pals who want to play, you can always scour the community for a willing opponent.
I'm a complete sucker for card battling games to begin with, and designing it around the Marvel universe just might make this irresistible for me. The problem, of course, is the buying of the virtual decks. Forgetting for a moment my raging gaming OCD, which compels me to collect everything I possibly can, this could turn into the typical collectible card game problem of wealthier players having ballsier decks. Of course, if you're a little short on cash, you can always try to trade with some of the other players.
