The New York Times has a biggly sloppy wet one of a profile (oooh, they have "hidden magic") on Vudu, a startup that yet again promises to make movie downloads work.
Bloggers snarkier than I have fulminated on why this particular iteration of the movies-at-your-fingertips idea is no more likely to work than previous efforts.
But I will note that the requiring folks to attach yet another box to their TV isn't going to help these guys. Between your DVD player/recorder, TiVo, cable box, Apple TV, SlingMedia and whatall, there's already to much plastic vying for space and power outlets around your TV. Combine Vudu service with a storage-equipped device people already have, and consumers would have one less reason to reflexively reject the whole idea.
