Simple and straightforward is this answer to AppleTV, a plain metal box with a single HDMI connector, optical audio port and USB hookup. On the front, a mysterious slot, obviously too small for optical media, perhaps conceals an IR sensor. The manufacturer is rumored to be Philips; we wouldn't know, though, because it appears someone deviced to smudge out the logo.

Sharp-eyed Charlie White spotted the telltale photoshoppery. I've whipped up a sharpened version after the jump, which makes the clone stamping more obvious. And let's face it, that slot could have been added with MS Paint.

If there's something real underneath all the crud, it looks to me like an Aopen prototype of some kind, rather than Philips. Goodness knows why someone would want to obscure the maker of such a crisp little box.
