Everglide Bicycle Concept for the Last Mile

The Everglide, finalist in this year's Dyson Australian Design Awards, is a solution for the "last mile" in public transport: The short but annoying distance between home and the bus stop or railway station. The concept, from Sydney University of Technology's Frag Woodall, uses aluminum and carbon fiber to keep the weight down so the folded bike can be carried as a backpack, or wheeled like a suitcase.

It's not pretty, and it looks like it might have some serious stiffness problems around that centre joint, but the idea is a good one.

The backpack section also makes a handy storage box when you're on the go.

Our favorite part? The interior shaft drive runs a frictionless dynamo, so cellphones and iPods can be charged as you ride.
