NVidia's el cheapo DirectX10 part, the GeForce 8400, will hit stores June 19.

Available in two versions, one with 256MB of RAM and the other with 128MB, cards built on the new GPU will see performance slashed, but with a corresponding drop in price: they'll be under $100. This brings the latest fancy graphics to the masses — realistic water, beautiful shader effects and lighting to die for — though the frame rates will be as cut-rate as the prices.

The actual price might be as low as $50 for some models, as cheap as a freshly-released game. If the only thing the card does is throw up a couple of very pretty screenshots a second, it'll be a false economy. At least one benchmark, however, shows it creaming the rival part from AMD-ATI.
