iRiver's gadgets go for the Kubrick look: they're usually square, black, and oddly altar-like, even when tiny. As if to prove the point, its Life Unit Multimedia hub resembles a 2001: A Space Odyssey monolith knocked on its side.
Designed by a fellow called Nakamichi, the unit includes a DVD player, speakers, "mid-woofer," TV tuner, WiFi, a detachable touchscreen display, 78-key QWERTY keyboard, and a dock for iRiver's line of portable music players. There's no word on pricing, but it's a safe bet there'll be four numerals on the tag.
