Japanese Man in iPhone Mugging

According to Digital World Tokyo, the first iPhone-related mugging has taken place. The unfortunate victim, Taro Tanaka of Kunitachi, Tokyo was attacked by three or more idiots who thought that his chrome cigarette case was the God Phone.

I'm calling spoof on this one, firstly because if these guys knew enough about the iPhone to steal one, they'd know that there is no GSM in Japan. Second, the tone of the piece is a little sarcastic. This is the reported quote from Tanaka:

If they’re that desperate they could have had my iRiver player instead - I really want a smoke now. Besides, my real phone has 3.6Mbps HSDPA; an IC-chip that works as a train ticket, bus ticket, e-cash, e-credit and can open doors; a 5-megapixel camera with optical zoom and auto-focus; real songs as ringtones; a dictionary; face recognition; a barcode reader and ringtones that make my girlfriend’s tits bigger. Oh, and not only did it cost me nothing, I’m not stuck with a two-year contract either.

Not too believable, although we will certainly be seeing some iViolence soon enough. Probably by 7pm Friday.
