Laron_showing_his_guitar_and_amp This being the end of June, it’s time to check in with Paul Rubenstein, a.k.a. "Mr. R," the New York high school teacher whose "Building Music" course allows students to design and build their own guitars, amplifiers, and square wave oscillators.  Then they make music with those tools (last year, people were saying the class already sounded "better than Sonic Youth").

From the class’s webpage,

"These guitars were made with one drill, one hand-held rotary tool and one jigsaw. We need more tools (and materials too)! Contact Paul if you can help."

The below video slideshow explains the project pretty well; there are also pictures of the class in progress here and here.
