If you've been waiting for the chance to have a sedative-free colonoscopy, today's a happy day. German firm Invendo Medical GmbH has one under development, which uses a special "drive in" unit that reduces the need for a human to manhandle the utensil into position.

"The invendoscope SC 40, consists of an endoscope sheath with an electrohydraulic deflecting tip (including camera head) and an inverted sleeve. The inverted sleeve technology causes the invendoscope SC 40 to "grow" just below the deflection, when advancing, and to "shrink", when retreating."
