Gerry Lauzon up in Montreal has kicked off the summer with the return of his excellent bike blog "Free Advice on How to Fix Your Bicycle". It does just what the name suggests, but Gerry also posts detailed how-tos on building bikes from found parts, general maintenance and insights on bike culture.

Lauzon has been collecting and fixing up bikes for the last 15 years, mostly free or cheap and often just giving his made bikes to the neighborhood kids. Stand out project? "Making your Own Bicycle Chopper". It contains the following disclaimer:

What you are about to read is totally unsafe, if you go ahead and build this, I will not be responsible if you injure or kill yourself. If you are stupid enough to think that this bike is as safe as a regular bike, then you deserve what's coming to you and you have been warned.

To help you get the most out of cycling, check out the community site Bikely. It's a user generated directory of cycling routes, all around the world. Naturally there is a Google Maps mashup behind it all, with step by step directions. This route will take you near Wired HQ. Remember to wave!

So what are you waiting for? Go out to the garage, dust that bike off and get out in the summer sun.
