Weekly Round-Up: Still No iPhone, Still No Problem

Ahoy there gadget-teers. A lot of you may be thinking, "I wonder if Wired has gotten hold of an iPhone yet. I mean, they are the creators of the finest tech publication in the nation." Oh stop it. We bet you say that to all the magazines you meet. But seriously, no, we don’t have […]

No_you_cant_have_an_iphoneAhoy there gadget-teers. A lot of you may be thinking, "I wonder if Wired has gotten hold of an iPhone yet. I mean, they are the creators of the finest tech publication in the nation." Oh stop it. We bet you say that to all the magazines you meet. But seriously, no, we don't have one yet. The benevolent Walt Mossberg does. And allegedly a few iPhones have been sighted out in the field. But as for Wired (or any other publication for that matter—including our good buds over at Gizmodo) we're going to have to wait until June 29th like everyone else to get one. Not to worry though, we'll be in line with all you good folks at the San Francisco Apple Store next Friday. We'll be filming, shooting pictures, and blogging all the madness that occurs when the clock counts down to zero. Hopefully no one will turn into a pumpkin.

Aside from lamenting about our current iPhone-less situation, we still managed to review the hell out of some pretty sweet tech this week. Check out these doozies from the last few days:

  • We scoped the way dry, way tough OtterBox iPod Nano case. Reviewer Mat Honan (whose mad ninja photoshop skills provided the image above) went as far as to dunk the protective accessory in the SF Bay to test its H2O repelling prowess

  • Dieter would just love this: Eurotrash styling meets kitchen appliance functionality in the form of the Jawbone handsfree set. Thankfully, reviewer Mark Robinson never once demanded us to "touch (his) monkey!"

  • Chris Null swooned over the multilayered features in Canon's PowerShot SD800.

  • The perpetually hungry Carlos Bergfeld resisted the urge to take a big wet bite out of the delicious MobiBLU BOXON AV Player.

  • Our very own Dylan Tweney weighed in on the HTC Mogul. His thoughts? Unless you're a self indulgent media tycoon, this handset will leave you wanting.

  • We also took a hard look at the T-Mobile Wing. Lisa Katayama's take on this younger, hipper cousin of the Mogul found it to be slightly superior to HTC's newest smartphone in a few key areas—but not by very much.
