The video-oriented 80GB "HD" version of the Zune that's rumored to be slated for a fall release has been delayed by a cabling problem, according to an internal Microsoft source cited by Zune Scene.

The minutiae:

"A significant percentage of the hard drive based Scorpio units wereexperiencing continuity problems between the flex cable and pcb. In other words,
a wire was coming loose. Our source went on to explain how there were emergencymeetings and a new flex cable design will be implemented. The new cable willhave a 'S' shape (not a folded accordion shape). It should prevent tension buildup during assembly and solve the problem."

The codename "Scorpio" could refer to a November release date -- quite possibly one year after the first version came out (on my birthday). An upcoming flash version of the Zune (codename: "Draco") apparently went into production on July 23, and could be released as early as September.
