I wouldn't have thought of the humble coffee mug as a field ripe for innovation, but maybe that kind of lack of imagination is why I'm stuck in a low-paying job supported by toilet ads. Anyhow, artist/designer David Pier says he's perfected the java vessel.
His eye-catching design has an undulating rim designed to prevent spills and make the cups easier to stack, plus an oval body that makes the cup easier to lift by changing the center of gravity. The saucer also doubles as a lid. Cup and saucer are $22 each, or $18 for just the cup, with a discount if you buy six or more.
