The industrious hackers at the Hackint0sh forums have reached a milestone in iPhone cracking. Using the iPhoneInterface application, forum members have successfully enabled a shell on the iPhone. A shell essentially gives access to the underlying Unix layer of the iPhone, and according to member 'ghex':
To do this yourself, you'll need to make an iPhone to serial cable, but if you are a confident solderer it will be easy, requiring few components (detailed in the forum thread). This after only a week. It can't be long before somebody installs Linux on this thing.
