Calls can be made over the connection and UMA (Unlicensed Mobile Access) support means that if you stray out of range, the call will switch seamlessly to the GSM network (or EDGE for data). The 8820 also gains microSDHC and microSD compatibility with a new slot, which will let you add up to 32GB to the handset (although right now you'll only find a 4GB card in the shops).
