How far did you travel for an iPhone? Five days and almost 20,000 miles? Well, that's exactly what fanatical Merrick Brown did. Currently working in Sydney, Australia, New Yorker Brown was overcome with iLust and just had to get his hands on an iPhone, so he headed back home.
Plan A was to head out from JFK to the nearest store. According to the Syndey Morning Herald, "Brown searched online before he left for a store located in the neighborhood with the lowest median income within a 18km radius of the airport." Smart thinking, if a little cynical.
Thankfully that particular lowly neighborhood will go unnamed, as Brown's mother queued at her local Boston store and snagged two iPhones, one for her and one for her grateful son.
Brown is now waiting on hackers to get the iPhone running on an Oz network. Good luck, Merrick! The official Aussie iPhone will probably be out before that happens. That said, if anyone gets it working outside the US, the grey-import market will explode.
