
You didn't think Microsoft was just going to let the iPhone redefine the smartphone market without making some desperate, Zune-like effort to co-opt it, did you?
Hence today's announcement that Redmond is working with a couple of Taiwanese manufacturers to get advanced Windows Mobile-based phones on the market by the end of this year. Arima and E-ten will work together to make phones that cram in high-speed data service, GPS, WiFi and more. E-ten mainly makes GPS units but recently got into the handset business with the Glofiish X500 (pictured).
