Sony has finally woken up to the real world and scrapped the proprietary ATRAC format in its new NWD-B100 Walkman, which plays MP3 and WMA only.... Sony Nwd-B103FSony has finally woken up to the real world and scrapped the proprietary ATRAC format in its new NWD-B100 Walkman, which plays MP3 and WMA only. The teeny 30 gram (one ounce) music player also brings the all the innovation of drag and drop to the party.

Best of all though is the brand new Auto Transfer feature. Simply plug the B100 into the USB port of a PC (no cables!) and it will pull down any music files found in your My Music folder. You know, kind of how the iPod has worked with iTunes since 2001.

You also get an FM tuner (which you can record from), microphone, three line display, six band EQ and the ability to stream music to a compatible Sony HiFi when plugged into a USB port. Add to that a pathetic 12 hour battery life and Windows only compatibility (dragging files across should work on a Mac, though) and you get a must-have gadget. Available in Europe from £45 ($90).
