Titanium Man to Complete Triathlon with Prosthetic Limbs

Andrew lost his hands and feet in a mountaineering accident eight years ago, but with the aid of prosthetics and a specially modified bike, he will complete what he has called the “Titanium Man” challenge this August. In true hacker spirit, Andrew made his own bike mods, fixing plastic spoons to the handlebars so he can operate the brakes and gears without hands.

The Iron Man triathlon is probably one of the toughest sporting events in the World. A 2.4 mile swim followed by a 112 mile bike ride topped off with a 26 mile, 385 yard marathon. Try doing that at age 37. Now try doing it with no hands or feet.

Jamie Andrew, of Bruntsfield, Edinburgh, Scotland, plans to do just that, and he plans to do it alone. Andrew lost his hands and feet in a mountaineering accident eight years ago, but with the aid of prosthetics and a specially modified bike, he will complete what he has called the “Titanium Man” challenge this August.
