Japanese Researchers Show Teeth Controlled iPod

Researchers at Osaka University, Japan, have come up with a device which will detect the clenching of teeth and skip tracks on your iPod. Not bad, but take a look at the prototype (pictured) and you'll see that the device is the equivalent of the 1980s calculator watch: A bully magnet.

We're all for the hands-free operation touted by project head, Fumio Miyazaki. The trouble is, unless you wear a pair of specs, the infra-red sensors – which detect movement of the temple – will have nowhere to sit. And that means the finished product could end up looking just like the demo.

Dentists, though, can celebrate. While skipping is controlled by a simple one-second clench, play/pause requires you to grind your teeth.
