Sony Europe's David Reeves knows that the PSP hasn't been as "explosive" as the DS, and thinks he has a good handle on why. In an interview with GamesIndustry, Reeves very frankly outlines the missteps he feels Sony has taken with its handheld, beginning with thinking of it as a media device, despite the fact that the majority of folks buying it purchased it to play games:
Reeves goes on to say that Nintendo has the advantage with portable games, so now it's up to Sony to "go back and think more about the games." He also mentions that Sony is pondering whether to commit to flash memory or to a hard drive for the PSP, a decision they have yet to make.
Reeves is refreshingly straightforward whenever he speaks. It's encouraging to see at least one high-level exec who isn't afraid to say yes, we could've done that better, so let's do what we can to fix it.
