A follow-up to Monday's item on telecomm giants that will help you get rid of that nasty old house of yours: A Verizon rep quickly weighed in saying there was no fire at the Boston-area home where an installation tech drilled into an electrical main, just a wee bit of a power outage.

The local fire chief and several bystanders, in return, have weighed in saying the event involved smoke and flames, thus qualifying in their minds as a fire. I repeat my suggestion that this could be a great way to get out of one of those negative equity mortgages. Verizon not only torches the house for you, their PR people explain the crap out of it, to the point where even insurance companies are likely to cry, "No mas!"
