At first the BasicKnives, by Caroline Noordijk, look like a great idea. Why buy and extra peeler/zester/grater when you can build them into a knife? Fingers, that's why. Think about it this way: Would you put a razor sharp blade on the edge of a cheese grater, ready to slice your digits at the merest slip? Plus, a well made vegetable peeler is a true multi-tasker (peel mangoes, slice cheese) and deserves its place in the kitchen.
Thankfully, the BasicKnives are still a concept at Yanko. Convergence can be a good thing, but not when it compromises its component parts.
