GMail Mobile Gets An Interface Makeover

gmobile.jpgGMail has tweaked the interface of its GMail mobile site, , adding a new feature that allows you to customize the main page with quick links to labels and other frequently used views. To add elements to your home screen, click the "more views" link and check all the mailboxes or labels you'd like to see.

The message list view has also gained some more of the familiar actions in the normal GMail app, such as archive, delete, report spam, add labels, mark as read, and star.

There's also a new link to an AJAX-free version of Gmail Mobile if your phone doesn't do well with more complicated web pages.

If you're a heavy GMail user and your mobile phone can run it, we recommend the GMail Java application, which is much faster and offers more bells and whistles than the mobile site. But regrettably there's still no Google Apps integration in the GMail Java app, so it's not for everyone.

Since the GMail Java app won't run on every mobile phone platform and won't work for those using Google Apps, it's nice to see Google is still working to improve the mobile web version of GMail.
