Hacker beware: Hackint0sh forum member and resident of Africa, Pipas, tried hacking his (or her) iPhone with what we assume was the George Hotz method, which necessitates opening up the case. A wayward screwdriver punctured and shorted the battery, resulting in the mess you see above. This is obviously not an iPhone flaw, but it does remind us of just how dangerous those lithium-ion batteries can be.
George Hotz himself deliberately shorted an iPhone battery, possibly to vent his frustration at spending 500 hours tweaking with the phones’ innards. Lucky for us, he made the video you see below (WMV – sorry).
