CcpspAs expected, the launch of the PSP hardware redesign has given Sony's ailing portable system a bump in sales in Japan. The PSP-2000 hardware officially launched last week, and Famitsu reports that 250,702 standalone units have been sold so far.

This follows a soft launch two weeks ago, in which a small number of the units shipped in the Crisis Core limited edition sets. Famitsu says 75,943 of these were sold, bringing the total so far to 326,645.

It's a solid start, although what really remains to be seen is how (or if) the smaller, lighter form factor actually affects week-to-week sales.
