The iPhone isn't much in evidence on Europe's Apple Expo — the firm's biggest Euro do — despite being expected to make its French appearance at the Paris conference. The delayed debut might be related to ongoing disputes between Apple and France Telecom over the handset's distribution. Which is to say, disputes over money.
It looks from reports rather as if France Telecom might either be maneuvering to force Apple into a weaker deal (at least relative to the one it supposedly got in the U.K.), or has itself backed out at the last minute. Apple Insider wonders if the problems might be so severe as to threaten a Christmas rollout. It'll certainly be fun to watch, however since we have no stake in the matter. We can sit back and watch Cupertino's obsessive-compulsive control instincts vs. the devil-may-care existential insouciance of those Gauloise-chomping Gauls.
