A jury has awarded Sprint Nextel $69.5 million plus royalties in an infringement lawsuit against Vonage. Found to have infringed six Sprint Nextel patents relating to sending voice communications over the internet, Vonage will now have to pay Sprint five percent of all future revenues. If the ruling stands, the firm is even more toasted than it was when a similar outcome was the result of a similar legal action from telco Verizon.
"We are disappointed that the jury did not recognise that our technology differs from that of Sprint's patents," Vonage lawyer Sharon
O'Leary said after the ruling.
"We are extremely pleased," said Harley
Ball, Sprint's vice president of intellectual property.
