If you thought the cries that Resident Evil 5 is racist were over, think again. News site AlterNet took this weekend's release of Resident Evil: Extinction as a cue to discuss the racism they feel runs rampant throughout the Resident Evil game series. For example, the article chides RE4 for featuring "parasitically controlled Spaniards...with stereotypical Mexican accents." As for RE5:

[I]n what looks like it could be a training video for a white supremacist race war or another U.S. military adventure in one of the increasing numbers of deserts on the planet, players of the soon-to-be-released Resident Evil 5 video game are placed in what could be an African country or Haiti as they blow up armies of black zombies.

The article goes on to find racist themes in other popular titles, like Vice City, which contains several references to killing Haitians. It then says that the gameplay of Resident Evil targets immigrants for extermination, and that "most video games deny humanity to the nonwhite, especially Latinos."

AlterNet describes itself as a news site fighting against the dominance of right-wing media, and as part of a driving force to create a "progressive echo chamber" to combat the "top-down delivery model of right-wing rhetoric."
