Why is HDMI gear so expensive? The answer lies somewhere on the spectrum of patents, PR and perception, just as with anything else. Oppo has, at least, made a reasonably cheap 3-in-1 HDMI switch with an RS-232 controller, yours for only (only!) $100.
Remember: friends don't let friends buy HDMI gear in brick 'n' mortar stores.
