The mobile media portal Myxer, which allows users to create, share, and download ringtones, wallpaper, and videos easily and for free, had 1 million users in April; today, the company announced that over 3 million people now use the site to send content from their PC to their mobile phone. (If you make your own original artwork or music, you can register to sell your content through the site as well; likewise, you can purchase premium content rather than creating your own.)
It doesn't surprise me that Myxer is doing so well, because nobody in their right mind would want to pay for a ringtone version of a song they already own. That said, I just tried the service again now that I have an iPhone, and the ringtone SMS hasn't come through yet; it's possible that Apple and AT&T don't look kindly on their subscribers using Myxer, because it cuts them out of the lucrative ringtone/wallpaper market.
