Sony's recent announcement about the UK release of the 40GB PS3 kicked speculation about a similar release on U.S. soil into high gear, but according to The Hollywood Reporter it's not just a rumor, it's fact.
The Reporter cites both an "industry source" and a "major retailers" as confirming November 2nd as the release date for the 40GB model here in the U.S., which will retail for $399. Like the UK version, it will be a stripped down PS3, with two fewer USB ports and no backwards compatibility.
The PS3's price has been a common sticking point for those considering picking it up, with developers chiming in to say a price cut was warranted. Bringing the cost down to $400 is certainly a decent savings, but are we losing too much in exchange?
