Sony is selling production facilities for both PS3 Cell microprocessors and RSX graphics chip to Toshiba by March 2008. Sony and Toshiba plan to set up a joint venture next April for the Cell facility in Nagasaki. Details of the price have yet to be set, but it's expected to be in the neighborhood of $858 million.

Sony had previously said it would cut chip spending and might opt to not produce the 45-nanometer Cell chip in-house. The sale to Toshiba is the latest move in Sony's plan to shed non-core assets.
