With the latest "jailbreak" accomplished, it was swiftly discovered that fundamental changes to the iPhone's software framework had broken all the old third-party applications created by hackers. All it takes, however, is recompilation and some clever routing around new security measures put in place by Apple. Several programs, including IRC and a NES emulator, are already running again.
The newly-gained access to 1.1.1's innards also allows exploration of SpringBoard, part of the iPhone's user interface. One discovery has been international capabilities therein, a premonition of the coming worldwide rollout of The Phone That Jesus Would Use.
For now, however, it's important to remember than the new jailbreak is complicated and that firmware-upgrading unlocked iPhones will still brick them. Do Not Upgrade unless you're a happily-locked AT&T camper.
