We knew that the entertainment industry was suffering from [insert favorite DRM/Piracy/customer persecution story here], but Disney is trying to stay one jump ahead of the meltdown by launching a mobile phone service in Japan. The move will be in partnership with Softbank, a Japanese carrier, and we assume Disney will be making full use of its back catalog to supply Japan's hunger for mobile content.
This comes as Uncle Walt's company shuts down its US mobile service at year end. We have no idea whether the child-tracking features will make into the new offering, but we desperately, desperately hope to see an update of the classic Mickey Mouse Phone, above.
