You had your shot to vote for the winner of the Doritos Unlock Xbox Contest, and apparently you really, really liked running around as a T-Rex, because Dash of Destruction has emerged victorious. You can play a demo of the game, originally conceived by medical software programmer Mike Borland, here.
All five finalists got a trip to Microsoft, a plasma TV, an Elite, and ten games, so it really was an honor just to be nominated. A full version Doritos Dash of Destruction should be showing up on Xbox Live Arcade in the coming months.
Why aren't I more excited about this? User-created content (however loosely you use the term) actually becoming a reality on Live is a good thing, right? It gives hope that the average gamer can maybe someday have a game of their own, thus opening the door to creativity and opportunity. Supposedly, anyway.
Perhaps the problem is that, being a sponsored contest, the entrants had to work Doritos into their game concepts, which could certainly put a damper on creativity. Perhaps the time cruch was just too prohibitive. Perhaps the finalists just aren't that good. I want to be excited about what this portends for the future of the Arcade, but at the moment it's about as enticing as Yaris.
