WiidvdRemember when Nintendo said that a version of the Wii hardware with DVD video playback was coming in the latter half of 2007? Well, that sure didn't happen. But Nintendo now says that the device is still on the way, just not this year.

Remember, they announced this for Japan, not America. In America, you can just make any old announcement you want, never follow up on it, and then, when your customers ask for an explanation, suggest that they are whiny ingrates.

But In Japan it requires a sincere apology, and that's what they get:

Although we had told you that we planned to release the model described above in the latter half of 2007, we will not be able to. We are currently focusing our efforts on manufacturing the current version of the hardware and fulfilling the strong demand in Japan, the US, and Europe.

We apologize deeply for troubling our customers and making you wait. We humbly ask for your understanding.
