
Sure, the demonstration model could have been better (novelty boat? What were they thinking?), but the Nexpeaker from Fils shows much promise. The speaker is built into a transparent film – Poly Vinylidene Fluoride with a piezo electric coating – and can be rolled or shaped to fit anywhere. The speakers give a 5w output (the subwoofer in the hull pumps out 15w) with a frequency range of 20Hz to 25KHz.
We'll wait to see how this sounds before throwing out our floor-standers, but if it works, say hello to speakers in shower curtains, windows, and, er, sailboats.
